Sever7 - M.O.N. (Original Mix)
Welcome to my latest release, "M.O.N." (Middle Of Nowhere). Inspired by the more Euphoric EDM scene of early 2001.
Going to be upfront and apologies for the rubbish quality - I have no idea why this is happening when bouncing down from Logic 9. No channel is clipping and I'm not pushing in master stage. Average -1 db. Anyway, try and enjoy and crit welcome - it's the first track out of my new rig and studio setup and first out of Logic Pro.
Sever7 - "M.O.N." (C)Copywrite 2012. This production is the work of Sean Sever. All rights reserved. Sean Sever / Sever7 runs the Dusk Record Label

Bye bye FL, Hello Logic
I've just finalized the purchase on the new studio PC and have decided to switch completely to Logic.
FL Studio will be missed though, it truly was great for the price and ease of use. Logic has a different approach to most things but sure i'll get the hang of it soon enough.
The choice was based largely on the hassles with my previous rig which had played up again recently coupled with my inquisitive nature - wondering why everyone recommends Logic. So let's see what the fuss is about shall we.
So far haven't even started it up - still waiting for the 2GB extras to download so I can get going (cannot to skip this step). So heres to even bigger challenges and achievements - really feel it's a milestone on a personal level. Expect feedback, quirks, headaches, tips and much more in future.

Cityscape is available for purchase!
To release or not to release?
That is - indeed - the question. Let's back-track just a little bit, allow me to explain. I've been sending a lot of work off to various big name labels (can't find contact details to the smaller Trance labels) - why you ask? Being indie is great but I don't personally have the marketing pull / stronghold / resources these big companies have.
I digress. After sending off a few promo's the consensus on my latest track "Cityscape" has been that it's technically great and mixed / mastered perfectly - BUT - and a huge BUT - it's not what industry is looking for right now.
This is good and bad for many reasons, to keep a DJ's set consistent you have to source / supply tracks that fit / work together. The bad side is you get much of the same being produced and in the end nothing that really breaks out from the norm.
With this feeling I am a bit reluctant to release my latest work - as it too - is different :-) So where to from here?
I think the end point is the fact that we make music to express ourselves just as an artist puts brush to canvas or a writer ink to paper - you know what? I think I'll be releasing the new track.

New release on its way!
Ladies and gentleman! Can't wait to share my latest work with you all but unfortunately you'll have to wait just a day or two longer :-)
I've sent the promo off to a few record labels and have decided to wait on them before releasing to public. I can tell you now that you're in for a real treat - not only is the next production of even higher quality - I've gone the extra mile to produce a music video for it.
That's right! It's already on YouTube and Vimeo - just waiting for final release to public ;-)

Studio rig gone ape!
Not the best of days :-) Was making great progress on my next track and the studio PC began to give issues in the form of intermittent reboots.
This rig was built from the ground up (by me) so I know that the problem lay with 64-bit XP drivers (Sound card). So why not just re-install them?
I did - and that's where the horror story comes into play. Sound is completely different to what it used to by - almost tiny. I've re-checked all studio wiring, and even tried 3 historical drivers.
Truly at a loss for words. Almost as if I've lost the LFE portion of a setup running in 5.1 (I'm obviously powered two studio monitor speakers in stereo).
After battling for hours - still no joy. Even the VST's I've used for years sound different - like their rendering to a different clock speed.
Strange stuff. Anyone else ever had an experience like this?
Well done Jay!
My mate Jay Robinson from North Wales has recently been interviewed on BBC Radio 1! Well done and wish only bigger things for you - keep it up.

New MIDI Controller for my studio
In my quest I've demo'd the Axiom Pro 49 and The Novation Impulse 49. To be honest - non of them did it for me, with either the keys not feeling great response wise or the actual features not measuring up to expectation.
There is a large difference in price between the two and of course allowed me to look at other vendors too. I introduce my selected controller ladies and gentleman - although I haven't purchased one yet - I have used a demo.
I've opted for an Akai MPK49!
It comes configured with 16 pre-sets (Live, Cubase etc.) with the option to add your own (which is what I'll be doing in FL Studio). It's a full 49 key setup with after touch ability on both the keys and the pads. The pad setup mimics that of the MPC series and will stand up to much studio abuse.
The LCD is well lit and can definitely be used with ease no matter the lighting environment (Just don't shine something directly upon it though - within reason). Keys are well sized and good to the touch and overall well manufactured.
The biggest reason for deciding on the MPK49 however is it's 3 Banks allowing you to control the 8 faders across them all (24 effective faders). One can literally control everything from the DAW transport to each and every channel in your workspace.
I could go on but won't - my best advice for those who are considering an upgrade or even their first controller - head over to your local sound / studio shop and request a demonstration. This bit of kit is worth every penny! Expect a follow up posting after I've purchased the unit - it won't be for some time due to other commitments but it will be in the near future.
Enjoy!

Best / Favourite DAW you prefer using?
What DAW are you guys using / prefer to produce music. Some use one, others combine a few to benefit from workflow / features between stages of production.
Personally I'm a huge fan of FL Studio. They've come a long way and if you know the ins and outs, it's pretty powerful too. Ultimately though, I have my eyes set on a Logic setup.
Looking to buy a mac someday but for now, happy with the current DAW
